Where have you been, loca?

Welcome to The BookCat, where the love for the fantasy genre meets the chaos of living with familiars!

You can expect reviews, discussions, ramblings and musings - plus the adventures of two silly little moggies who bring real magic to our mundane world.

All are welcome in this realm.

All About Me

'I only tell stories, Your Grace. They may be truths, they may be fictions. All I know is that the stories themselves exist and that I must tell them.'

- Hoid (Elantris, Brandon Sanderson)

I think I entered this world obsessed with stories, the more fantastical the better. My childhood was defined by magic and adventure, which  I used to escape a less than magical home. I journeyed with Bilbo, undertook Trials of Death with Darren Shan, drank Getafix's magic potion, and (somewhat with regret now) attended Hogwarts. I built fairy villages out of whatever I could find, brewed stinky potions from everything I laid my hands on and painted a portal on my bedroom window in nail varnish.

The oddest thing is, I never grew out of it.

As I grew older, the magical realms of Fantasy called me more. In my 20s I discovered the Cosmere, and in my 30s I discovered the Romantasy subgenre. On this site you'll find my love of Fantasy isn't relegated to High Fantasy, Romantasy, Urban Fantasy or any other subgenre - I love all things magical.

I also love all things feline. I live with two hilarious (and very spoilt) little fluffs, who love to sit and read with me whenever they aren't causing chaos. I can't wait to share with you the adventures of Rupert and Cas, as well as all my thought and opinions on what we've been reading.

'I meant,' said Ipslore bitterly, 'what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?'
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.
